About Ethiopian Airlines


Ethiopian  Airlines often referred to as simply Ethiopian, is Ethiopia's flag carrier and is wholly owned by the country's government. EAL was founded on 21 December 1945 and commenced operations on 8 April 1946, expanding to international flights in 1951.

 As one of the fastest growing carriers in Africa, Ethiopian flies to more destination in Africa than any other carrier. It became a Star alliance member in 2011 and is one of the few profitable airlines in Africa.

 

The Airlines five highest volume air routes are from Addis Ababa to Johannesburg, Dubai, Guangzhou, Nairobi and Beijing.

Flight Routes

As of October 2016, the carrier serves  94 international and 19 domestic passenger destinations and 35 cargo destinations. Ethiopian serves more destinations in Africa than any other airline. Notable domestic destination routes include: Abuja, Accra, Douala, Dubai, Entebbe, Frankfurt, Johannesburg, Harare, Kilimanjaro, Lagos, Lomé, London, Luanda, Lusaka, Malabo, Maputo, Mombasa, Mumbai, Nairobi and Rome.

 

Baggage Allowance

Sheba Miles – Frequent Flier Programs

Ethiopian Airlines' frequent flyer programme  Shebamiles and Lufthansa's Miles & More entered into partnership, allowing members of each programme to earn and spend miles on both airlines' networks.

The Ethiopian frequent flier program is made up of the ShebaMiles Blue , ShebaMiles  Silver and ShebaMiles Gold, ShebaMiles Platinum

ShebaMiles Blue

·         Earn 3,000 status miles in one calendar year; or

·         Fly 2 qualifying segments.

ShebaMiles Silver

·         Earn 25,000 status miles in one calendar year; or

·         Fly 20 qualifying segments in one calendar year.

·         Collect Star Alliance Silver tier benefits on each flight after qualification

ShebaMiles Gold

·         Earn 50,000 status miles in one calendar year; or

·         Fly 40 qualifying segments in one calendar year.

·         Collect Star Alliance Gold tier benefits on each flight after qualification

ShebaMiles Platinum

·         Earn 75,000 status miles in one calendar year; or

·         Fly 60 qualifying segments in one calendar year.

·         Two years of tier validity after qualification in addition to the remaining of the qualification year.
