About South Africa Airways

South Africa Airways is the flag carrier of South Africa with its headquarters situated on the grounds of the OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park, Ekurhleni, Gauteng.

Founded in 1934 after the Acquisition of Union Airways by the South African Government, the airline has since grown to live up to international standards and is now a star alliance member.

SAA is also the official airline of the association of Tennis Professionals, owns Mango - a low cost domestic carrier with business links to Airlink and South Africa Express.

South African Airways flies to 38 destinations in 26 countries in Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Australasia. SAA, along with Air China, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Korean Air, & Qatar Airways is one of the few carriers to have services to all six inhabited continents.

It also serves a far larger network through its affiliates Airline South African Express and Airlink, domestically and regionally speaking.The airline also enjoys codeshare agreements with the likes of Ethiopian Airlines, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Air India, Air Mauritius, Air Seychelles, El Al, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Jet airways and JetBlue Airways, further extending its international carrier capabilities. 

Voyager -  Frequent Flier program

Voyager is the frequent-flyer program of South African Airways. Voyager consists of five tiers – Blue, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Lifetime Platinum. To reach a higher tier, members must fly on selected flights to allocate "Tier Miles". This differs from "Base Miles", which members can only use to receive awards.


The SAA fleet consists of 57 aircraft in total, comprising predominantly of Boeing 737s and various Airbus models.
