The Republic of Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 coral and granite islands in the Indian Ocean and is the smallest sovereign state in Africa. The picturesque island, known for its beaches, coral reefs, diving, nature reserves and rare wildlife, is surrounded by Zanzibar to the west, Mauritius and Réunion to the south, and the Madagascar to the northeast.

Majority of the islands are uninhabited, the capital of Seychelles is Victoria and the official languages are French, English and Seselwa. Some of the popular Islands include are Mahe, La Digue, Cousine Island, Praslin, and Denis Island. Most Seychellois are Christians with a majority of being Roman Catholic while the minority practice Hinduism and Muslims.

Attraction Overview

Beaches in the Seychelles’ compete with the best in the world. Amongst all the beaches, Anse Lazio on Praslin Island deserves a special mention. However, La Digue Island’s Anse Source D’Argent is also worth exploring. A trip to the Seychelles is never complete without a visit to the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve on Praslin Island and Aldabra Island in the outer circle of the archipelago – both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.


Seychelles is usually hot and humid; however, the heat is usually mitigated by refreshing sea breezes, especially by the beaches. The cooler season runs from May to September while the warmer season runs from November to March. April and October are described the "changeover months".

Getting Around

Being a popular tourist destination, there are various schedules and charter flights going to Seychelles. Once, you're there, Air Seychelles runs regular flights from Mahé to Praslin, Frégate, Desroches, Bird and Denis Island, and runs charters to other islands. You can also take an helicopter, hire a bike or car or join the ferries.


Medical facilities are limited in the Seychelles but there are various medical and dental clinics in La Digue, Mahé, Praslin. There is a large general hospital and several pharmacies in Victoria while government clinics are used on other islands. Prices vary according to whether they are government clinics or private ones. Many hotels offer a 24-hour doctor on call services for guests.


The official languages are French, English and Seselwa.


The official legal tender is the Seychelles rupee (SCR).
