Located on the edge of the fertile Honam plains, Jeonju is the capital of Jeollabuk-do (North Jeolla Province) in South Korea. The name, ‘Jeonju’ literally means "Perfect Prefecture. The city is an important tourist center famous for Korean food, historic buildings, sports activities and innovative festivals. Back in May 2012, Jeonju was chosen as a Creative Cities for Gastronomy as part of UNESCO's Creative Cities Network. Due to its location, the city does not have the manufacturing or heavy industries found in other Korean cities but has a strong Education sector and various historical sites. Jeonju has a zoo, a large park, and the Hanguk Sound and Culture Hall, a large, modern concert complex on the Chonbuk National University campus.

City buses and taxis are available for commuting around the city. However, Tourists are advsied to walk between points of interest when possible, as many are near each other.
